''Strauder'' was the first time that the Court had reversed a state criminal conviction for a violation of a constitutional provision concerning criminal procedure.〔Michael J. Taylor Strauder was a Black man who, at trial, had been convicted of murder by an all-white jury. Strauder appealed his conviction, contending that West Virginia exclusionary policy violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution.
